Meir is a small, friendly club, based at the John Marston pub in Blurton on Wednesday evenings. If you are in Stoke-on-Trent or north Staffordshire and looking for a sociable game of chess, drop in to our club. You will be playing chess before too long that evening. We play in the Function Room - through the door to the far right of the bar - a comfortable venue with good-value beer or soft drinks.
If you would like to play competitive chess, we have a team playing in the North Staffordshire League and we enter various local and County competitions.
You are welcome to come to try out playing at the club and, if you enjoy it, to join the club. New members of any ability - from beginner to seasoned "expert" will quickly fit in.
We are, primarily, a club for adults so we ask a parent or guardian to accompany a child if they come to the club.
Newcomers are welcome to come to see whether joining our club is for them. If they decide to join, our current subscription is £5 a year. If they want to play in League matches against other clubs, they need to join the English Chess Federation, which costs £21 a year for Bronze membership.
Let us know if you are coming on a Wednesday evening so that one of the members can look out for you. If there is a formal match in progress, the people using chess clocks and recording their moves are not supposed to talk during play. They are not being rude, they are just playing by the rules!
